Saturday, April 10. 2010What a week of snow, Look for next years gear soon
What a couple weeks of snow we have had!!! With up to a foot of new snow several days this last week the end of the season seems to not want to come. We are actively making orders for next season and will be loading website with products early this year. Look for the skis you've been looking for this next year. We are selecting only the best models for our customers in a select group of brands including the great brands we have carried and bringing back some old friends with great new models. Look for K2 skis to have tip and tail turn up of some type in almost all models that turn very well. The Apache line has been replaced next year with a redesign and there are a few new models. Scott skis has added some great new models and re-tuned the standards they have had the last years. Look for a couple of Elan models next year that are incredible including models in the Waveflex line, what great carving skis.

Sunday, April 4. 2010Spring Snow Skiing
Another incredible day of fresh spring snow up to the knees. This has been one of those springs you don't see every year. The last few weeks I have been skiing on Scott Missions. This ski has a composite core beam and new graphics for 2010. Good sidecut at 17 meters with an 89 waist. Good on trail and off, skis untracked and tracked up clumpy snow very well with little energy to initiate and finish turns. On trail this ski turns very nice as well. With a little wider side cut you have to lay it on edge to really carve, but in the typical northwest snow this ski is really a carver with lots of edge to edge energy. With tip and tail flex that is not overly firm you can really turn this ski in the bumps as well. This is definitely a ski to consider if you are looking for ski for a wide variety of conditions and terrain, and is especially suited for the type of snow we get in the west.

Thursday, April 1. 2010Atomic Crimson day at Mt Hood
A wonderful day of skiing in the Northwest on new snow at Mt Hood. Sunny and powdery snow. Today I am skied on a pair of Atomic Nomad Crimson. What an incredible ski for fresh northwest snow in a wide variety of terrains. Next year Atomic is updating this ski. They are replacing the foil metal layer with a thicker metal layer. The width will change slightly but the big sidecut is remaining. This is a great ski for fresh off trail yet tracks well on groomed. Turns on the steepest terrain very easily and very well on flatter groomed with a little unweighting motion added.

Saturday, March 20. 2010Love Mt. Hood in the spring, and love the Nordica Mach Powers!Yesterday was one of those days when Mt. Hood Meadows really shines ... literally. The sun was out, the morning temp was in the upper 20's and a ton of runs were groomed really, really nicely. Many pitches here and there that do not usually get a cat visit, like Upper Elevator Shaft and Sunburst off Cascade Express and Apollo at the bottom of Shooting Star were buffed to butter. The tool of choice was the Nordica Mach 4 Power, and it loves days like these. They were absolutely perfect! Many, many big carves were laid down, and almost 30,000 vertical was eaten up before it was time to head back to reality. With the earlier reset of our clocks to Daylight Savings time, conditions held up pretty well all day, with little slush and zilch sticky spots. Several times we stopped to just admire the fantastic view out over the Cascade Mountains and spend a few moments reflecting on how lucky we were just to be there. If you are a groomer lover, and don't have a tool specifically for these kinds of days, then you are really missing something. The Nordica Mach 4 Power is a just a very sweet ski. At 74 mm underfoot, it is not as narrow as a GS race ski, and this extra bit of width gives it enough mass to be very stable in the short sizes that appeal to many skiers. All of Nordica's considerable hi tech design is concentrated into this one ski. It has a Dual Radius Eliptical sidecut, XBi CT "integrated into the core" binding system, and Titanal metal laminate construction with full wood core and ABS sidewalls. Point it downhill, tip it onto on edge, and the rest is automatic. Not as demanding as a race ski, and with almost no speed limit, this baby is just FUN! It never surprises, it never loses its grip, and it just GOES! All the hype right now is on wider skis, and that is fine if a skier is looking for a compromise ski for both on and off trail. But, many of us are mostly groomer skiers, so a wider ski is not really the best choice. Wider skis are slower from edge to edge, harder to turn as tightly as a narrower ski, and with construction being equal, they do not hold an edge on hard snow as well as a narrower shape. A 74 mm ski like this is also really fun also when there is 6" or so of pow on top of groomed. So, the question is, why give up performance where you want it the most? When the sun is out and the corduroy is down, the Mach 4 Power is an awesome choice to have hooked to your boots.

Sunday, February 14. 2010Presidents/Valentines weekend skiing
Despite the higher snow levels forcast skiing was excellent this weekend at White Pass. Snowed off and on all day saturday with NO RAIN. sunday was not quit as lucky with rain most of day at base with some snow, but snowed all day from top of lower roller up. I have not gotten any reports from Mt Hood or other areas, but the weather report for Mt Hood did not look good Friday. I suspect they had similar conditions and this weather pattern seemed to stretch all the way to British Columbia. How about the USA in the Olympic Nordic Combined, GO Team USA... Love those winter sports

Wednesday, February 10. 2010Snow Basin Day 2
Another great day of skiing. New snow overnight with snow during day, better visibility for the second day of demos. Today we skied Volkl, Scott, Elan, K2, Nordica, and a few new brands. Even a better day of skiing, only one crash for the day. Nothing serious, just some brusing and sore muscles. Of course by the end of three days of hard skiing we all had some sore muscles. Many great turning skiis with a variety of new and existing technologies that are amazing. Seems to be a trend for wider wastes as the twin tip trend continues. When looking for a new ski that is going to be your only pair keep it simple. Don't get caught up in the new trends. We had a lot of discussions about ski width, and I think you can find a good balance between turnability and a width that will ski ungrooomed well. If you are fortunate enough to be able to afford more than one pair of skiis then there is a great range of choices between the skiis for different conditions/trail types. Look for product reviews soon.

Tuesday, February 9. 2010Snow Basin Demo Day 1
Snow Basin Demo day 1 was a great start. Light snow and some lower visibility off and on all day. Cloulds seem to grab hold and circle this peak when they go by. We skied on Nordica, and K2 today. The K2 Apache line has been replaced for next year. Look for our comments on these new skiis soon. K2 has decided to put upturn in the tip and tail of all its skiis. In the non twin tip skiis the turn up is small and seems to aid in turn initiation and helping to absorb lumps and bumps in snow. Nordica has a few new skiis and continue to build on the fine turning skiis in the line. Great day of skiing, yes the thighs did burn by end of day but we did make it 9am to 4pm for a full day of turns and speed top to bottom. And no crashes, it was a good day...

Monday, February 8. 2010Ski Demo Trip
The Pro Shop Demo team has made it to Utah to Demo Skis. Weather is partly cloudy and looks to be a good trip. First day on snow was at Park City. Been three or four days since it last snowed, nice surface and skiing is fast. We're getting our elevation legs under us today before heading to snow basin as we come from sea level and skiing at 9000' is a little higher than we are used to. Part City is the home of US ski team fitness center and we saw race training going on today. There are four members of demo team and today we ski'd on our K2, Nordica, Atomic skiis that we brought. Fun skiing, if you get a chance to make a trip Park City should be on your list.

Weekend Snow Falss
Good Snow days this weekend at the Pass. Four or so inches Friday night and cooler temps made for good snow ontop of weeks already good snow pack. Not much snow Saturday night but it snowed all day Saturday and Sunday. Temps were below and at freezing during the day. Finally getting good coverage on those last few rocks, creeks, and holes. Looks to be a great Month.

Wednesday, January 27. 2010Great Day at Meadows !!!Great day at Mt. Hood Meadows yesterday. The upper mountain (Cascade Express) and Heather Canyon had not opened after the last big storms over the weekend. It was one of those go anywhere, jump off anything kind of days. The Scott Missions were perfect for the conditions. Soft, tight bumps down Heather were no problem, and plenty of stability to make tight carves on the groomers at mach speed. This is the drug that us ski junkies need! Hope I can get another fix soon. Don
